Nearly 9.9 million Malaysians claimed the free MYR50 e-wallet credit disbursed through the Government’s ePenjana initiative, the Malay Mail reports.

Initialised on 31 July, ePenjana runs through to 24 September 2020 and the free credit is disbursed via three select e-wallet services—Touch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay, and Boost. The credit must be utilised before 30 September 2020.

The finance ministry revealed that up until 21 August, MYR495.4 million has been successfully disbursed to 9.9 million individuals.

The ePenjana programme is designed to encourage e-wallet usage, boost consumer spending, and a secure, contact-free payment experience amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

ePenjana is applicable to all Malaysians aged 18 and above, and earning less than MYR100,000 annually. Effectively, those who qualified and received eTunai Rakyat will qualify for ePenjana.

Interestingly, a total of 7.1 million individuals redeemed their free MYR30 e-wallet credit under the eTunai Rakyat initiative introduced by the previous administration.

A pre-requisite to qualify for the programme is that users must download and use the MySejahtera app. Users must also update their personal details in the app as well as verify their respective e-wallet accounts.

The free e-wallet credit can be used for online and in-store purchases, paying bills, and more.

The participating e-wallet providers also provide various value-add incentives such as vouchers, cashbacks, and discounts. To read more about what respective e-wallet providers are offering, click on the links below:
