ePenjana: How to claim your MYR50 free e-wallet credit from Grab

ePenjana e-wallet credit

Starting today, 31 July 2020, eligible Malaysians can claim MYR50 free e-wallet credit from the Government’s ePenjana initiative. Participating e-wallet providers include the usual suspects–GrabPay, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, and Boost. These e-wallet providers are also throwing in extra MYR50 worth of vouchers, cashbacks, and rewards. Here is how you can redeem your free credit from GrabPay.

First of all, let’s get a few things out of the way.

Before you make your claim

To qualify, you need to be a Malaysian citizen, aged 18 years or older as of 31 December 2020 with a valid IC, and have an annual income of less than MYR100,000 per year (based on LHDN’s latest records).

It is a pre-requisite to download the MySejahtera app and register as a user.

The first step is to update your Grab app (iOS v5.107.1; Android v5.107.0 and above). If you haven’t, activate and upgrade your GrabPay Wallet by verifying your account via the eKYC process (Know Your Customer).

Once you have verified your account (may take up to two days), your GrabPay Wallet will be upgraded from Basic to Premium.

How to claim MYR50 ePenjana

  1. Open the Grab app
  2. Tap on the “Payment” tab and click on the image card “Get MYR50 and more with your GrabPay Wallet.”
  3. That’s it!

The identity verification will be done to identify your IC number (as per your MyKad), income eligibility, and whether you have registered on MySejahtera. It will also check if you have claimed your ePenjana from another wallet already. You can only claim from one e-wallet provider.

Once you’ve submitted your claim, it may take up to five days for verification and approval. Once approved, you will receive the one-time MYR50 credit in your GrabPay Wallet.

The MYR50 worth of vouchers from Grab will be issued via the “My Rewards” tab in the Grab app. You will also have a chance to win weekly bonuses from Grab and its partners, worth MYR75.

What can you use MYR50 ePenjana for?

You can use the MYR50 credit for any transactions that can be paid using your GrabPay Wallet. Contrary to what was stipulated by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the credit can be used not just for offline/in-store transactions. This means you’re free to use it for Grab rides, GrabFood, deliveries, and more.

You can’t, however, transfer your balance to other GrabPay Wallets or cash out the credit.

The redemption period will be from 31 July 2020 until 24 September 2020. All e-wallet credit must be utilised by 30 September 2020.
