The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has released redemption details of its ePenjana initiative. Eligible Malaysians can redeem free MYR50 e-wallet credit via supported e-wallet providers starting tomorrow, 31 July 2020.

The MOF revealed that the redemption period will be from 31 July until 24 September 2020. E-wallet credit must be utilised by 30 September 2020.

The Government has selected the three biggest e-wallet players, similar to the previous eTunai Rakyat programmeTouch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay, and Boost.

To qualify for the free credit, the claimant e-wallet account must be verified.

ePenjana is applicable to all Malaysians aged 18 and above, and earning less than MYR100,000 annually. Effectively, those who qualified and received eTunai Rakyat will qualify for ePenjana. The MOF stipulates that the free e-wallet credit can only be used for offline/physical purchases.

[UPDATE] However, Grab has gone on record to say that it can be used for any GrabWallet transactions within its platform except for transfer of funds or to be cashed out.

Participating e-wallet providers will provide additional MYR50 in value through vouchers, cashbacks, and discounts.

The initiative will benefit approximately 15 million Malaysians, designed to encourage e-wallet usage, boost consumer spending, and a contact-free payment experience.

A pre-requisite to qualify for the programme is that users must download and use the MySejahtera app. Users must update their personal details in the app.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced today that its Gerak Malaysia contact-tracing app will be disabled effective tomorrow, 31 July 2020. Users are encouraged to download and use the MySejahtera app.
