unifi Turbo upgrade: Check your upgrade status

TM unifi free upgrade

Telekom Malaysia’s (TM) bombshell of an announcement in July – yes, the earth-shattering new unifi Turbo plans pushed the nation’s internet broadband to new territory. TM’s home fibre customers got a 10x speed boost for free, with copper-based Streamyx customers getting 2x speed bumps. The convergence champion also introduced an all-new entry level plan which substantially lowered the point of entry for fibre customers.

Starting 15 August this year, TM started upgrading unifi customers for free. Naturally, the rollout is executed in stages, with some customers getting theirs earlier (or later) than others. To check if customers were eligible for free Turbo upgrades, TM put up an official page for customers to check.

Unfortunately, the page was overwhelmed with the onslaught of traffic and TM was forced to take the page down. TM later sent out emails to qualified customers to notify them of upgrades.

The telco went back to the drawing board and have now incorporated a status check page under the unifi Sel-Care Account at unifi.com.my. The “Turbo Status” link is under the top right hand drop-down menu.

You’ll need to be logged into your unifi account to access menu options.

Once you’ve clicked on Turbo Status, you’ll see your current package, and if you’re eligible for the free Turbo upgrade, the page will display your new upcoming package and expected date of upgrade under your install address.

The page however does not detail a specific date of install, which is a bit of a pain.

I personally received my upgrade in September. Some of you may not be as lucky and may need to wait as late as January to June 2019. Upgrades are also subject to technical availability. Do also check if your current router setup supports new upgrades speed. Otherwise, you may not get to enjoy the full experience.

As a refresher, here’s a breakdown of the speed bumps TM is offering for unifi plans:

  • 20Mbps and below – 100Mbps
  • 30Mbps – 300Mbps
  • 50Mbps – 500Mbps
  • 100Mbps – 800Mbps

If you’re not yet a unifi customer, you’re encouraged to sign up via unifi.com.my starting 15 July 2018. New customers will also get to enjoy speed upgrades, as long as they sign up before 31 December 2018.

Current unifi plans are as below:

  • Unifi lite plan (10Mbps) – MYR129 per month
  • Unifi advance plan (30Mbps) –  MYR139 per month (special deal until 31 December 2018)
  • Unifi pro plan (100Mbps) – MYR329 per month
