As announced during its 3 July special media briefing, Telekom Malaysia revealed more details about its new unifi broadband plans today. The new broadband and mobile plans are part of its objectives to boost its market leadership position and deliver on the nation’s broadband aspirations to increase and improve internet access to all Malaysians.
Let’s not deny this. Some consumers are obsessed with speed. Heeding this call, TM is turbo-boosting broadband speeds by up to 10 times, starting 15 August 2018. For existing users, speeds will be bumped up at no extra cost while new customers who sign up before 31 December 2018, will enjoy the speed upgrades in phases beginning 2019. This covers over 800,0000 unifi Home customers.
Who would have thought unifi was capable to go beyond 100Mbps, eh?
Here’s a breakdown of the speed bumps based on different unifi plans:
- 20Mbps – 100Mbps
- 30Mbps – 300Mbps
- 50Mbps – 500Mbps
- 100Mbps – 800Mbps
If you’re not yet a unifi customer, you’re encouraged to sign up via unifi.com.my starting 15 July 2018.
Three plans are available:
- Unifi lite plan (10Mbps) – MYR129 per month
- Unifi advance plan (30Mbps) –
MYR179MYR139 per month (special deal until 31 December 2018)
- Unifi pro plan (100Mbps) – MYR329 per month
If you’re curious about upload speeds, TM said that upload speeds will vary, but in general will be 25-50% of the download speed. For instance, 100Mbps (download) will get 50Mbps upload speeds, with a possible 200Mbps upload for the top tier 800Mbps plan.
As you know, TM also announced a new entry-level unifi plan at 30Mbps, targeted at the B40 segment – for households with an income of MYR4,500 or less.
The broadband-only plan with 60GB of monthly usage quota is offered at only MYR79 per month, more than 56% lower than the current 30Mbps unifi Home plan (MYR179 per month).
Pre-orders for this plan will open from 15 July 2018. Interested customers can check eligibility and availability at unifi.com.my/unifi-basic. Rollout for unifi Basic will start from 15 August 2018.
Unifi Wireless Broadband
Alternatively, unifi also offers unifi Wireless broadband at MYR79 per month for customers who want hassle-free, installation-free, hacking-free home broadband. The contract-free solution offers customers fast LTE speeds and loyal customers get a three months fee waiver.
You can connect up to 64 devices at one time.
Let’s not forget Streamyx pre-unifi customers. Accordingly, there are more than 340,000 Streamyx customers located in unifi coverage areas. This can only mean one thing – upgrades to unifi. For the 350,000 Streamyx customers not in unifi areas, TM will be upgrading speeds to up to 2x the current speeds.
One more thing
TM brings back its unlimited unifi Mobile Postpaid plan that gives you unlimited 4G LTE data, calls and text for MYR99 per month. You also get 10GB LTE Hotspot Data, and is based on a no contract basis. This plan is offered exclusively to unifi home and Streamyx customers, starting 15 July 2018.
TM currently serves nearly two million broadband homes, more than 8 million individuals and 10 million devices nationwide.
The convergence champion believes its new turbocharged solution will “catapult Malaysia beyond majority of regional peers” which includes Singapore.
“These new plans mark our commitment to bring better affordability/price – speed –coverage for all Malaysians to enjoy a seamless digital experience with unifi. We expect the new broadband plans to place Malaysia alongside the top broadband nations in the region. At TM, we remain steadfast to our Convergence and Digital strategic thrusts to be the enabler and premier solutions provider in Malaysia’s digital and creative-led economy,” said Datuk Bazlan Osman, acting group chief executive officer, TM.
