Fresh from the MWC17 is Huawei’s new take on its smartwatch – Huawei Watch 2. The new generation wearable builds upon the classic design of the original, while goes full on with smart fitness capabilities.
Go independent
With the Huawei Watch 2 4G version, you can leave your smartphone at home while you go running. It has built-in GPS+GLONASS, and thanks to its mobile connectivity, you can also respond to calls and texts on-the-go. You can also book an Uber ride, check-in on Foursquare or chat on Telegram.
The awesome thing is it supports VoLTE, coupled with dual-mic noise elimination and integrated antennae on the upper watch case. Built-in connectivity options in lude dual 4G, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 BLE+BR/EDR and NFC.
Available in limited countries, is also an eSIM version. eSim is a one-number-multi-SIM service. It lets your watch and mobile phone share the same number.
Healthy is sexy
Huawei gets serious about fitness with the Huawei Watch 2. Not content to just be a great looker, the new device packs multiple smart sensors with advanced algorithms to track and collect data on your activity. This includes distance, speed, steps, heart rate, heart rate range, calories, gait, route and more.
With the new watch, Huawei makes it incredibly easy to start tracking your workout. Just a click on the crown opens the workout App. Naturally, there are running modes to get you going, including “fat-burning run” and “cardio run.” Additionally, there’s real-time guidance built-in – the watch will dynamically notify you to accelerate or decelerate to meet your optimal heart rate zone.
The watch will also measure your V02max after each run.
What’s a workout without music? The Huawei Watch 2 allows you to add music to your workout through Google Play Music app. Personally, I’d use Spotify though.
Chrono for the win
The Huawei Watch 2 also has a “Classic” variant, featuring a chronograph design. It integrates the same smart and sports features of the sports-focused Watch 2, but exudes a stylish, premium look. It’s made from 316L stainless steel and “sophisticated materials” and also boasts a dual-crown design.
Techie specs
Under the hood, the Huawei Watch 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Wear 2100 processor mated to 768MB RAM and 4GB of onboard storage.
The Watch 2 weighs 40g (Bluetooth) and 42g (mobile) while the Watch 2 Classic tops the scales at 47g.
It comes with a 420mAh with a claimed typical usage of two days. In training mode, this goes down to 10 hours (GPS + realt-time HR on).
Sadly, it isn’t swim-proof, but at least it’s IP68 dust- and water-resistant.
The watch runs the latest Android Wear 2.0 and also supports Android Pay (limited to supported regions).
Posh with Porsche
Huawei continues to hold hands with Porsche Design as the partners continue to co-develop premium lifestyle products. The Porsche Design Huawei Smartwatch integrates all the best features from the regular Huawei Watch 2 but adds that touch of panache and fashionable chic, for those with deeper pockets.
