ASUS ZenFone 5z: The real ZenFone flagship is coming soon to Malaysia

ASUS ZenFone 5

The mid-range ZenFone 5 is a strong effort from ASUS, but let’s be honest, it isn’t the flagship phone you’re waiting for. What you’d want to make your pants wet is the ZenFone 5z – the real deal showstopper ASUS has up its sleeves. First released in India, this flagship killer is on its way to Malaysia.

Thanks to serial leaker Lazada Malaysia, the ZenFone 5z is listed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and retails for MYR1,899. An extremely attractive price point considering it has top notch hardware including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.

ASUS is reportedly bringing the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage version as well, priced at an attractive MYR2,299. This obliterates everything in its path including Snapdragon 845-powered phones namely the OnePlus 6 (8GB + 256GB storage @ MYR3,099), the just-launched OPPO Find X (8GB + 256GB storage @ MYR3,699), as well as non-SD845 devices like the Samsung Galaxy S9+ (6GB RAM + 128GB storage @ MYR3,999) and Huawei P20 Pro (6GB + 128GB storage @ MYR3,299). The Mi MIX 2S (6GB + 128GB storage @ MYR2,199) is the only exception to the crop of flagships that wins based on price.

It’s aggressive, I can tell you that. And just as the Taiwanese tech giant has priced its ZenFone Max Pro M1 super competitively to kill off the competition, it’s applying the same strategy with its top rung offering.

On paper, the ZenFone 5z is rock solid. It features a 6.2-inch Full HD+ Super IPS+ display (with a notch, boo) that boasts an impressive 90 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The rear camera is a 12MP f/1.8 + 8MP f/2.0 (wide-angle) dual-camera system with OIS. On the front, it gets an average 8MP selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture.

The ZenFone 5z gets its juice from a 3,300mAh battery which fast charges up via USB Type-C.

It runs ZenUI 5.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.

No officially availability yet but ASUS will reportedly announce details on its Facebook page on 30 July 2018.
