For iPhone 4S and new iPad users, Siri has been ‘entertaining’, if not highly accurate. In a test by analysts Piper Jaffray, Siri was just 62% accurate when used in a busy Minneapolis street. However, Siri was better in a peaceful room which was 68%. Wow, only a 6% increase?

For many of us in Malaysia who have been struggling with Siri, due to our accent and how we speak English (our unique flavor called “Manglish”), it is interesting to find that Google Voice Search isn’t too far away in terms of accuracy. Google gets it wrong 18 percent of the time.
Highlight of one of Siri’s responses was when she suggested that the Nokia Lumia 900 is better than iPhone 4S. (Windows Phone users rejoice!)
Accurate or not, voice recognition and virtual assistant technologies like Siri and Google Voice Search can only improve over time. Well, I guess we’ll have to wait for the new iOS 6 to see how much Siri has improved over its current beta release. With integration with Yahoo Sports, Rotten Tomatoes, Fandango and Open Table, there’s a whole lot more what Siri can do that just entertain us with “Knock knock” jokes.
Now I wonder what Siri would answer if I asked “Was Abraham Lincoln really a vampire hunter?”
