Talented Malaysian guitarist-composer-educator Az Samad is set to launch his 8th solo album entitled “in the deep night/electric poetry” this Tuesday, 28 May 2013. To celebrate this milestone, Az is throwing an album launch party at Merdekarya in PJ where you’ll be able to enjoy up close, his incredible fret work, exploring electric guitar textures, effects and loops on his William Jeffrey Jones Proteus electric guitar.
The party will also feature performance by guest musicians – singer-songwriter Anna Chong, finger-style guitarist Lai Ze Ren & Ng Chor Guan.
There will be special giveaways during the launch, including Random Knick Knack pouches from Malaysian bag maker – Greenroom136. Also a chance to grab Az’s new album “in the deep night/electric poetry.”
Az has an impressive performance history, having performed in the United States, Europe and Asia. A versatile musician who has appeared on sixteen CDs (seven of which are his solo releases), Az has worked with Grammy winners Flaco Jiménez and Max Baca, drummer Bernie Dresel (Brian Setzer Orchestra), singer-songwriters Tara Linda and Reza Salleh, guitarists John Stowell, Stuart Ryan, and Teja Gerken; world music ensemble Bogofusion; electronic jazz-funk group Planet Loop; Cumbia-Dub band Candelaria; and string jazz ensemble JazzMine.
As an educator, Az has been on the faculty of Berklee College of Music’s Summer Guitar Sessions and has taught workshops at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut; Culturefest in Pipestem, West Virginia; and The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, California.
In the local music scene, Az has been actively hosting Open Mic sessions to nurture local talent in music and creative performing arts.
