ASUS ZenBook 13 and 14 Malaysia: Everything that matters

2020 ASUS ZenBook 14

The all-new ASUS ZenBook 13 (UX325) and ZenBook 14 (UX425) ultraportable notebooks debut in Malaysia today. Thinner and lighter than the previous generation, the svelte ZenBook Classic duo boasts a comprehensive array of I/O ports, making them the world’s thinnest 13.3- and 14-inch notebooks to offer full I/O connectivity. The new ZenBooks also rock the latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors and WiFi 6 (802.11ax) connectivity.

Key features

For ultimate portability, the ZenBook 13 weighs just 1.07kg while the ZenBook 14 offers a larger screen at just 1.13kg. To compare, the previous generation ZenBook 14 tipped the scales at 1.39kg.

Both models measure just 13.9mm thin but don’t let their skinny outlook fool you. They’re both built tough—to MIL-STD-810G US Military standard for reliability and durability to be exact. That means, they’ve survived torturous tests in harsh environments—including power-on drop tests and operation at extreme altitude and temperature.

The much-loved NanoEdge Full HD displays boast a 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio, ensuring an immersive viewing experience. There’s also an optional low-power 1-watt display that delivers an incredible 450 nits of brightness.

A glaring new change is the edge-to-edge ergonomic keyboard which is now larger for a more comfortable typing experience as well as accommodates an extra set of function keys on the right hand side.

ASUS has retained one of my favourite features—the ZenBook’s unique precision-engineered ErgoLift that automatically lifts the keyboard to an optimum angle when the lid is opened. This also creates space under the device for extra cooling airflow.

The ZenBook’s famed dual-function touchpad with an integrated LED-illuminated full-size numeric keypad—ASUS NumberPad 2.0—makes a return.

Powering the notebooks are the latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors, up to the Core i7 series. This is coupled with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and some of the fastest flash storage available—up to 512GB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs.

Pushing the performance envelope further is built-in WiFi 6 (802.11ax) which offer up to 3x faster performance than WiFi 5.

The ZenBook 13 and 14 offer unrivalled I/O capabilities. Despite being just 13.9mm thin, the duo offers full-size HDMI and USB Type-A ports; two high-speed Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports; and a microSD card reader.

They also support the new ASUS USB-C East Charge feature which allows you to charge the device with a wide range of standard USB-C chargers. They support ultrafast charging with any USB-C Power Delivery-certified chargers, or using the bundled 65W power brick (previous generation came with a 45W).

Speaking of which the 67Whr battery delivers up to 22 hours of use. A 49-minute charge will take it to 0-60 per cent.

Audio is supplied by a pair of stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon. A microphone array provides Cortana and Alexa support.

Pricing and availability

The ASUS ZenBook 13 (i5-1035G1) retails for MYR3,999 while the i7-1065G7 model is priced at MYR4,699, available in Pine Grey. Meanwhile, the ZenBook 14 (i5-1035G1) goes for MYR3,999 and the i7-1065G7 model retails at MYR4,699, available in both Pine Grey and Lilac Mist.
