Continuing its digitisation journey to enhance customer experience, Sunway Malls has introduced the Unified Payment Terminal (UPT)—an all-in-one payment terminal that accepts a variety of cashless payments ranging from e-wallets, debit and credit cards. The move aims to further enhance convenience for shoppers and retailers alike and provide a more seamless shopping experience.
By going cashless, shoppers will not need to carry much cash in hand and do not have to worry about small change.
The benefits of the UPT also extends to retailers; retailers do not need multiple terminals to accept payments, which translates to lower terminal rental costs. Tenants will also be able to accept multiple wallets for the convenience of customers.
Sunway Malls revealed that as of December 2019, the mall has seen over 750 of its retailers utilise cashless payments and e-wallet providers including Alipay, Boost, GrabPay, GoodKredit, Maybank QRPay, Mcash, NETS, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, and WeChat Pay. More are expected to be added in the future.
The introduction of the UPT is also aligned with Sunway’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by reducing the carbon footprint of all shoppers and the mall itself, by encouraging a cashless lifestyle.
HC Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Malls & Theme Parks says, “The introduction of the Unified Payment Terminal is one of the many ways we want to improve our shoppers’ as well as retailers’ experience in Sunway Pyramid. We look forward to creating more convenient, efficient and safer environments for all who choose us as their preferred shopping destination now and in the future.”
Go cashless and earn points
Sunway Pyramid is encouraging shoppers to go cashless. When shoppers use participating cashless payments such as Boost, GrabPay, Maybank QRPay, and Touch ‘n Go eWallet) in the mall from now until 31 December 2019, they are entitled to earn 10x Sunway Pals points. For those who spend MYR200 and above using NETS will receive MYR15 worth of Sunway Pals points. This offer is valid until the end of June 2020.
Thanks to a partnership between Singapore’s NETS and Malaysia’s PayNet, Singapore shoppers will be able to use their NETS debit cards to make payment locally.
Sunway’s digital drive
Since October, Sunway Malls has rolled out this initiative in other malls including Sunway Velocity Mall, Sunway Putra Mall, Sunways Carnival Mall, and Sunway Citrine Hub.
Also in October, Sunway previewed its Sunway Smart Parking system at Sunway Pyramid, another initiative that’s part of the group’s digitisation journey. The solution features the largest fully integrated license plate recognition system with support for multiple cashless payment options. The fully-automated system is expected to be rolled out to the public in Q1 2020.
