SPOTTED: Le Meridien KL Foursquare Special

Foursquare joins other popular social networking tools like Facebook and Twitter as platforms for sharing, building relationships and engaging people in conversations across the world. For the uninitiated, Foursquare uses geo-location (that’s a popular buzzword these days) on mobile platforms to interact by way of exploration and ‘check-ins’.

Being relatively new, Foursquare can’t beat Facebook in terms of sheer number of users (4sq’s 100million+ versus FB’s 500million+). However, in Klang Valley alone, there are already over 3,000 active users with a total of 80,000 check-ins per day! That’s crazy!
It’s fantastic to see local businesses like Frontera Sol of Mexico and international hotel brand Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur jumping on the bandwagon and embracing Foursquare as a brand-building and customer loyalty tool via ‘Specials’. There’s no better way to encourage visibility and interactivity than by offering rewards for loyal customers!

There are 4 kinds of Specials*
Mayor Specials: unlocked only by the Mayor of your venue. Who’s the Mayor? It’s your single most loyal customer! (the user who has checked in the most in the last 60 days) (“Foursquare has deemed you the Mayor? Enjoy a free order of french fries!”)
Check-in Specials: unlocked when a user checks in to your venue a certain number of times. (“Foursquare says you’ve been here 10 times? That’s a free drink for you!”)
Frequency-based Specials: are unlocked every X check-ins. (“Foursquare users get 20% off any entree every 5th check-in!”)
Wildcard Specials: always unlocked, but your staff has to verify some extra conditions before awarding the Special. (“Show us your foursquare Swarm badge and get a free drink!”)
