Spider-Man is dead. Allow me a couple of minutes to weep. Yes, you heard it right. The webspinner we’ve come to love all these years has spun his final web. Peter Parker is dead. In Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160, Peter Parker is killed by his long time nemesis the Green Goblin, dying in the arms of his beloved Mary Jane after a showdown.

Created by Marvel Comics editor and head writer Stan Lee, Spider-Man debuted in 1962 in Amazing Fantasy #15. Penciller Jack Kirby and inker Steve Ditko created the first ever cover. It was the gateway to commercial success and later inspired the launch of the very successful The Amazing Spider-Man comics.

Marvel Entertainment editor-in-chief Axel Alonso said recently, “Peter’s death doesn’t signal the end …. it’s the start of one of the most ambitious stories you’ve ever read in comics.”

The story will continue in Ultimate Comics Fallout coming out in July, which will pick off after the death of Peter Parker and introducing the ‘new’ Spider-Man.

Who’s under the mask? We’ll see.

The future of the Ultimate Comics Universe begins with the death of Peter Parker this Wednesday, June 22, in ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #160.
