Additionally, over 1.4 million nights were booked with online travel agents across 132 destinations across the globe.
Based on a recent online shopping sentiments survey done by ShopBack Malaysia, 90 percent of the 1,200 survey respondents expressed that they intend to purchase something for themselves at the end of the year. Fashion, Beauty & Supplements, Home & Living were voted as top three choices. The survey revealed that 40 percent of online shoppers plan to spend between MYR51-MYR150, while 32 percent where prepared to spend between MYR151-MYR500.
As a business, things are looking rosy for the platform. Compared to 2H2018, the company saw an increase of 77 percent in terms of Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) generated through ShopBack in 1H2019. Eddy said that given the positive outlook and strong online shopping interest among shoppers locally, the company is confident that 2H2019 will grow even more, riding on ShopBack ShopFest. The phenomenal growth Malaysia has seen since the debut of the platform can be attributed to the maturity of e-commerce in the country, and the acceptance of ShopBack as a platform. Eddy added that there were plenty of learnings from its four and a half year journey, as well as valuable feedback from users themselves that has further spurred growth of the platform. He also cited improvements in partner platforms that have contributed to enhanced user experience and improving the e-commerce ecosystem as a whole.
Co-founder of ShopBack, Sharmeen Looi revealed that since the launch of ShopBack in Malaysia in 2015, users have received over MYR30 million in cashback. There are currently over 1.5 million active users of ShopBack in Malaysia, with the top user having withdrawn more than MYR30,000 cashback in his account.
Sharmeen announced that H&M is the latest brand to come onboard the platform, offering up to 5 percent cashback for purchases through ShopBack. The fashion brand joins popular merchants such as Agoda, Booking.com, Lazada, Klook, Shopee, Taobao, Zalora in offering cashback and discounts on ShopBack.
During ShopFest, participating merchants will offer up to 80 percent discounts, and ShopBack users will get upsized cashback of up to 30 percent cashback as well as vouchers.
She announced a new, refreshed mobile app experience with shortcuts to upsize cashback, voucher redemption, as well as fun games throughout the ShopFest sales period.
