The Galaxy Note9’s impending global launch is tomorrow night, 9 August 2018. It’s already known that pre-orders for the device will begin the next day (in first tier markets). The latest piece of news though, reveals the official Malaysian launch will be happening on 15 August.
I’ve received a “Save the Date” email for 15 August 2018. While there’s no mention of the Galaxy Note9, the email contained the Note9’s blue and gold accents with caption “The new super powerful smartphone is almost here.” No prizes guessing what it’s referring to.
With all that’s been leaked and leaked, (and unintentionally revealed), there’s little left to the imagination about the Galaxy Note9. But hey, Samsung may have things up their sleeves. Hint: One more thing… Oh wait.
Here’s the executive summary if you’re too lazy to read.
The Galaxy Note9 will look identical to the Note8 it replaces, featuring the same 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display. It’s powered by the powerful octa-core Exynos 8910 (or Snapdragon 845) and will pack either 6GB RAM + 128GB storage or 8GB RAM + 512GB of storage.
In the optics department, the device will feature a similar camera system to the Galaxy S9+ – a 12MP dual-camera system on the rear with variable aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4). What’s new is something called Intelligent Camera, a smarter, AI-like feature that can intelligently recognise objects and scenes.
Yesterday’s leaked marketing materials also confirms the striking yellow S Pen gaining Bluetooth connectivity. You’ll now be able to use the stylus to capture a photo, make presentations and control apps without the need to touch your phone.
Another welcomed improvement is in the battery department. The Galaxy Note9 will get its juice from a 4,000mAh battery which fast charges via USB Type-C.
Alongside the Galaxy Note9, Samsung may reveal a new Galaxy Watch and the new Samsung Wireless Charger Duo.
The Galaxy Note9 will be unpacked on 9 August 2018 in New York, at 11PM (MYT). Stay tuned for updates.
