Samsung unveiled the latest addition to its growing ATIV family to the Malaysian market today — Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite, a lightweight, stylish Windows 8–powered notebook.
The new Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite is powered by an AMD A6-class quad-core processor (up to 1.4Ghz), and while Samsung has sneakily described the processor as merely ‘quad core processor’ in its literature, the shared AMD Radeon HD 8250 graphics is a dead giveaway. The new notebook comes in two configurations — touch and non-touch. The sleek notebook is bundled with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and is fitted with a fast 128GB SSD drive, enabling start-up times of mere 8 seconds; and wake up from sleep mode in 2 seconds.
ATIV is Samsung’s Windows-based brand of computing devices that include desktop PCs, notebooks, convertibles, tablets and mobile phones.

The non-touch variant weighs just 1.44kgs while the touch version weighs 1.58kgs. Not the lightest amongst budget notebooks, nor amongst Samsung’s own Ultrabook range, but ‘light enough.’ Both variants come with a 13.3-inch HD LED display supporting 1366 x 768 resolution, with the the non-touch supplied with an anti-reflective screen.
With the bundled 2-cell 30Wh battery, the ATIV Book 9 Lite calmly delivers eight hours of ordinary usage.
The ATIV Book 9 Lite is available in two contemporary colours — Marble White (non-touch) and Mineral Ash Black (touch).
The new notebooks feature Samsung’s new SideSync capability, allowing for connectivity with other Samsung-based devices via USB or wirelessly. With SideSync, consumers can connect their Samsung smartphones to the ATIV Book 9 Lite and allow them to view maps, photos and media from their phone on the PC screen, and allow for cross-device drag-and-drop.
The ATIV Book 9 Lite also comes built-in with a 720p HD web camera, stereo speakers, Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BT), Wi-Fi 802.11bg/n, Bluetooth 4.0, multicard slot, VGA port, HDMI port, security slot and a Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

Initial impressions
Samsung makes good notebooks, as seen in the Series 5 and especially the premium Series 9. In fact, there’s much design characteristics that have been borrowed from the Series 9, from its thin profile and contours. Which isn’t a bad thing at all. The ATIV Book 9 Lite, although clearly targets the budget buyers and possibly students, packs enough features, performance and value to be an attractive buy. The AMD processor is somewhat of a surprise, but this choice obviously keeps costs down.
