It’s time to upgrade your 32-incher, here’s Samsung’s 2017 QLED TV lineup

Samsung QLED TV

After drooling over them at CES 2017, I’m finally getting a closer second look. Samsung’s award-winning 2017 QLED TV line-up is now officially in Malaysia, offering stunning audio-visual experience in 55-inch to 88-inch sizes.

QLED, not to be confused with rival display technology OLED, is Samsung’s new display technology powered by Quantum Dot. Quantum Dot has been a key feature in its SUHD TVs for the past couple of years.

QLED, in short, stands for Quantum Dot LED. Without getting overly technical, QLED is still based on a backlit LED (LCD) panel. It’s a transmissive technology, while OLED uses self-emitting pixels and therefore is an “emissive” technology.

What’s important is that QLED is claimed to have higher light output (and therefore brighter images) and better colour reproduction.

Samsung’s new improved Quantum Dot consists of a new proprietary metal structure that delivers better colour and more brightness. It expresses blacks and rich detail no matter how light or dark a scene is.

Simplicity at its best

From a design standpoint, the new QLED TVs are as premium as they come. They’re unbelievably slim, minimalist and uses a single cable to connect the TV to the One Connect Box. Goodbye, cable clutter.

For wall-mounting applications, the QLED TV has a no-gap wall mount, minimising the space between the TV and wall for a clean, neat look.

Obviously, not everyone may want to mount the QLED TV on the wall. Thus, there’s a range of stylish Samsung TV stands to choose from. There’s the Studio Stand for an easel-type sophisticated look; or Gravity Stand which lets the screen be rotated easily.

Samsung didn’t just declutter the TV, it also did some magic to the thing-formerly-known-as-the-TV-remote. The One Remote Control is magically simple and intuitive letting you control multiple devices (TV, Sound Bar) via a single input device.

It auto-detects your devices intelligently without the need to toggle between them on your own. It is also enhanced with voice control.

As added convenience, you can also control your QLED TV from your smartphone with the free Samsung Smart View TV remote app.
