The Proton X70, PROTON’s first SUV, has passed the New Car Assessment Program from Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) with flying colours. The latest Proton vehicles sits near the top of its segment for occupant safety.
For PROTON at least, it isn’t a huge surprise seeing that it has a stellar record in vehicle safety. The Proton Iriz, Persona, Preve and Suprima S are all 5-star ASEAN NCAP certified.
PROTON said its engineers and designers paid close attention to every detail to ensure the Proton X70 exceled on the latest 2017-2020 testing protocol. Under the new protocol, safety assist technology plays an important role and accounts for 25 percent of the overall score.
In 2012, PROTON introduced Hot Press Forming (HPF) body structures to form the passenger cell of its cars. Called REinforced Safety Structure (RESS), the PROTON-developed body construction system debuted with the Proton Preve. RESS was developed to meet the tougher global crash safety regulations. PROTON is the first carmaker in the ASEAN region and sixth in the world to acquire HPF technology.
The Proton X70 uses the same technology, which explains why the SUV can provide a high level of protection to its occupants.
The stiff HPF cell is supplemented with six airbags for all variants, ISOFIX child seat mounting points as well as seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters.
Thanks to all these elements, the SUV received a perfect score for side impact and head protection.
That aside, the Proton X70 is the first PROTON model to be equipped with advanced safety assist features. The vehicle boasts Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).
