Having been teased and leaked for the past couple of months, PROTON today finally unwrapped not one, not two, but four special edition vehicles. The limited run cars include the Persona Black Edition and Exora Black Edition as well as Iriz R3 and Saga R3 Limited Edition models.
Overall, the special edition cars feature purely cosmetic enhancements with no mechanical changes or performance upgrades. Unlike the pure-bred R3 limited edition vehicles (LEVs) of yesteryears such as the O.G Satria R3, Satria Neo R3, and the like, the R3-branded Iriz and Saga models also only feature cosmetic treatment.
Persona Black Edition
The Persona Black Edition is based on the range-topping 1.6 Premium CVT variant, finished in metallic Quartz Black with gold accents. This is a similar colourway to last year’s Saga Anniversary Edition and first seen on the roof and door mirrors of the Iriz 2017, as revealed by Paultan.org. Since PROTON does not offer the Persona in black as standard, the Black Edition is the only way to own a black Persona.
The Black Edition is priced at MYR54,700* (OTR w/o insurance), which is merely MYR100 more than the regular model. Note that this includes SST exemption. This will change come 1 July, when the sales tax is reintroduced. The car is covered by a five year/150,000km warranty. Only 500 units of the Persona Black Edition will be made.
Exora Black Edition
The Exora Black Edition is based on the 2019 Exora RC and comes dressed in metallic Quartz Black with gold trims. It is priced at MYR67,800* (OTR w/o insurance) inclusive of SST exemption. Come 1 July, expect the price to go up when the SST is reinstated. The MPV is covered by a five year/150,000km warranty. Like the Persona Black Edition, this model is a limited production run of 500 units.
Iriz R3 Limited Edition
If you expecting a performance-boosted Iriz, you will be disappointed. Based on the Iriz 1.6 Premium CVT model, the R3-branded Iriz is purely a cosmetic upgrade with a tasteful three-piece R3 bodykit and 16-inch dark grey alloy wheels. The car also comes with decals—the number 83 (racing number used on the Iriz race car that won the 2019 Sepang 1000km endurance race) as well as Limited Edition and R3 badges on the tailgate. Finished in Quartz Black, you’ll find the car decked out in bursts of yellow in the exterior and interior.
Shanghai, China – May 24, 2017. Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre is familiar with Ando Tadao’s works in Shanghai. The theater is located in Jiading New Town, Jiading District, Shanghai, adjacent to Shanghai International Circuit, one of the landmark cultural facilities in Shanghai.
Only 500 units will ever be made, slapped on with a price tag of MYR52,900* with SST exemption.
Saga R3 Limited Edition
The 35-year old Saga line continues to be a popular model amongst Malaysians, and PROTON continues to refresh and enhance this legendary car. The Saga R3 Limited Edition is offered in Quartz Black with racy R3 yellow accents both on the exterior and interior.
It comes with a bodykit and 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels finished in matte grey.
The vehicle is plastered with decals including the number 82, the racing number of R3’s Saga race car.
Based on the Saga Premium AT variant, the Limited Edition vehicle retails for MYR42,300* inclusive of SST exemption. Only 2,000 units will be made available.
*Prices are for Peninsula Malaysia only
