OPPO Find X will find its way to Malaysia soon

It’s possibly the most exciting smartphone to have debuted this year. I’m talking about the OPPO Find X. Bleeding-edge, beautiful, packed with juicy hardware, OPPO’s latest flagship lives up to the Find series name. And the great news is, it’s coming to Malaysia. On 17 July to be exact, as stated in the official email invite to the media.

It’s difficult not the be hyped up about the OPPO Find X. The crazy motorised camera that slides out from the chassis is too hard not to fawn over. Not forgetting the unbelievable all-screen design.

In case you missed the earlier announcement post, here’s a refresher.

The Find X is a stunning blend of metal and 3D glass and it boasts a massive 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED screen which OPPO calls Panoramic Arc Screen. It’s amazing because it offers a screen-to-body ratio of 93.8 percent, the highest ever on any smartphone. And also, because there is no notch.

So, how did OPPO do it? I mean, it’s a smartphone without bezels, buttons, notch and camera.

Well, OPPO devised a motorised retractable camera system that keeps the rear dual-camera system and selfie tucked neatly in the chassis when not in used. On the front is a complex system that’s reminiscent of Apple’s TrueDepth camera, consisting of a flood illuminator, infrared camera, ranging sensor, receiver, dot projector and 25MP front camera.

OPPO calls this its Stealth 3D camera and it supports facial recognition (O-Face Recognition).

The rear camera system comprises an AI-enhanced 16MP + 20MP f/2.0 shooters with OIS.

The sliding mechanism works well from the looks of it. When you fire up the camera app, the top assembly slides up to reveal the cameras. And when you’re done, the assembly retracts back into the main chassis. All in a matter of 0.5 seconds.

That’s not the only thing that makes this phone tick.

It’s got the range-topping Snapdragon 845 chipset mated to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

Let’s not forget the large 3,730mAh battery that support OPPO’s VOOC fast charging technology. It’s plenty fast – 90 minutes to a full charge. No match for Super VOOC though, but for that you’ll need to get the OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition. That’ll take you from zero to hero in 35 minutes.

So how much will 2018’s most cutting-edge smartphone cost to Malaysians? Probably a lot. Considering the standard Find X will burn EUR999 (MYR4,635) for our friends overseas, it’s not going to be anything below MYR4,000 when it gets here. And if you’re sold on the Lamborghini version, that’ll set you back EUR1,699 (MYR7,882). Spare change if you already drive a Lambo, though.

The OPPO Find X launch is happening on 17 July 2018, so stay tuned for pricing and availability updates.
