Now you can mute annoying people on Instagram

We all have that friend who posts too much on Instagram. Or the one who posts selfies with completely unrelated, philosophical captions. Or the one who posts with a single word caption littered with 38 hashtags. Yes, I feel you.

Don’t you wish you could mute this person? Sure, unfollowing would be too cruel, and well yes, you still want to maintain a relationship in real life. Right?

The good news is, now you can.

Instagram is introducing a much-wanted feature: “mute,” something Facebook and Twitter have had for a while.

A coming update will allow you to mute someone’s posts, or both their posts and Insta stories from appearing on the Instagram news feed.

As you’re not unfollowing the person, you’ll still be able to see the person’s profile.

You will be able to unmute them at any time, of course, and this is all done in private. They will not know if you’ve muted or unmuted them.

To mute an account, tap the “…” menu in the top corner of the post. From there you can choose to mute posts, or mute both posts and stories from the account.

Alternatively, you can mute post and stories by pressing and holding a story in your tray or from a person’s profile.

Instagram will roll out this feature to all Instagram accounts in the coming weeks.
