Families can now enjoy free unlimited roaming with Maxis FamilyRoam

Maxis FamilyRoam

Traveling overseas with family is something many of us enjoy. That said, connectivity when you’re traveling is vital, especially if you’re in a foreign city. You’ll need data access for Google Maps, to hail a ride with Uber, or to update your social media channels.

Yes, priorities. Based on personal experience, there are several ways to stay connected when you’re traveling with family. Roam with your mobile plan, buy a local SIM card or get a roaming mobile Wi-Fi device.

There are pros and cons to each approach. Roaming individually may be expensive, as roaming charges would apply to each person.

Buying a local SIM card is a viable option, but bear in mind, everyone will need to have one. Plus, you will not be able to use your own number from your home mobile plan.

A mobile Wi-Fi device (Mi-Fi) is great and usually economical especially for long periods, but it will mean you’ll always need to be within a certain range to stay connected.

All that being said, Maxis may have the perfect roaming plan for families who travel together. Called FamilyRoam, it allows all Share Lines on MaxisONE Plan and MaxisONE Prime to enjoy free unlimited roaming in any ASEAN country.

The fantastic thing about FamilyRoam is that regardless of whether a user is a principal or share line, they will have access to unlimited international calls and SMS, and unlimited use of their DataPool. Yes, no set quota and you can use the data as you would back home.

It’s incredibly flexible. Any member of the family can travel and enjoy free roaming under the same account and just pay for one combined MaxisONE World pass at MYR38 per day.

Here are a couple of things to note:

Eligibility – all subscribers of MaxisONE Plan 98/128/158/188 (including MaxisONE Sabah/Sarawak Plans), MaxisONE 4G Combo 148/198 and MaxisONE Prime with Share Lines (on MaxisONE Share).

Countries covered – Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Brunei, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

Cost – You will be charged a maximum of MYR38 per day in the country you’re visiting. The rest of the family enjoy roaming for free.

Free additional roaming data quota – each roaming family line will get 500MB of quota each. Once this quota is depleted, your usage will be drawn from your domestic quota (Data Pool) at no extra cost.

Validity – Each pass is valid till 11.59PM of the country’s capital city time. For instance, if you’re visiting Philippines, the pass expires at 12 midnight Manila time.

How to subscribe to Maxis FamilyRoam pass

There’s no manual subscription required. When you make/receive calls, send SMS or use your data in the country you visit, the Maxis FamilyRoam pass will activate automatically.

Once this is triggered, you will receive a notification via SMS.
