MyTeksi App Gets Sexy v2.0 Makeover

MyTeksi 2.0
New Online Web Booking that auto geo-locates you & shows nearby taxis.

MyTeksi, a for-profit social start-up that enables customers to easily book taxis via their smartphones and tablets (iOS and Android), has announced a big sexy upgrade for its iOS version. Launched in June 2012 for both Android and iOS platforms, MyTeksi has seen big operators like Comfort Taxi and KPPCB (Koperasi Pengangkutan Putrajaya & Cyberjaya Berhad) embracing the new platform. There are currently over 650 taxis powered by MyTeksi to date.

MyTeksi was the runner-up in the 2011 Harvard Business School Plan Contest, and it has the distinction of being the first taxi booking and dispatch service using smartphone technologies.

Aaron Gill, MyTeksi’s Product and Technical Lead explained, “The reason behind this overhaul was to push our promise of providing passengers Speed, Certainty and Safety even further. It is a culmination of all our passengers’ and drivers’ feedback in the past one year.”

One of the key changes to MyTeksi in v2.0 is the sexier, more intuitive user interface. It allows a passenger to book a taxi in just two taps.

The MyTeksi 2.0 app is currently available for iOS platform only, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. The 2.0 app will be available soon for Android and also Windows platforms in a couple of months’ time. Commuters can also book a taxi through the web-browser interface directly from

MyTeksi 2.0 Watch your taxi move towards and Share Your Ride.

Real-time all the time
The latest updates bring the most awesome feature of MyTeksi 2.0 yet. The app now shows your taxi moving towards you ‘live’ on a map. This removes any uncertainties of whether your taxi will be arriving.

In addition, your driver’s details like full name, car plate number and ID photo are displayed on your booking confirmation screen. The app displays the route so you will always be assured that the driver is taking the proper route and not taking you ‘for a ride.’

As another security feature, MyTeksi has ‘Share My Ride’ that allows you to easily share personalised message and link privately to your loves ones and friends if you wish, on Facebook and Twitter. Once they click on your private link, they will be able to track your taxi’s whereabouts live on a map.

MyTeksi 2.0 History function for passengers to track their past rides.

MyTeksi now also allows booking cancellation, and passengers are also abe to rate (“like” or “dislike”) a driver or comment on their experience. Passengers can also view a history of their bookings.

You can catch a video of how the new MyTeksi 2.0 app works over here:

Our impressions of MyTeksi:
I’ve been a MyTeksi app user since its launch in June and have been impressed by its reliability and speed. It’s highly convenient and I’ve gotten to know some really good taxi drivers who now know me by name. It’s a win-win service for both passengers and taxi drivers, and response from taxi drivers themselves have been positive.

Using the service regularly, I can honestly say it’s the best way to catch a cab!

The new MyTeksi 2.0 app certainly looks and feels much sexier. Can’t wait to try it out!

MyTeksi wants to give you an iPhone 5!
To celebrate the launch of our MyTeksi 2.0 app for iOS 5 & 6 platforms, MyTeksi is currently running a “Book, Share and Win” contest. The grand prize is the all-new iPhone 5!

There will also be 4 iPod shuffles as weekly consolation prizes. To find out more, visit their Facebook page at or their official webpage at

Instagram Usage Reaches New Level

Pictures beat words, right?

Instagram, the popular social photography app for iOS and Android has overtaken Twitter in terms of daily usage for the first time.

[ad#Google Adsense 336×280]

According to comScore data, Instagram throughout August 2012 had an average of 7.3 million active daily users, compared to Twitter’s 6.9 million active daily users at the same period of time. See chart below:

The numbers reveals the verdict

Despite the fact that Twitter has around 29 million unique US smartphone-based visitors in August, and Instagram with around 22 million and below only, Instagram users spend more time (257 minutes), while Twitter users spend less time (170 minutes), viewing or accessing their respective sites. The graph below will simplify it:

The coming months should be mighty interesting for Instagram, as the app is expected to be available for Windows Phone 8, a potentially huge, growing mobile platform.

Take the very basic – email, probably the earliest form of cloud computing, even before the term was invented. One company that’s taking cloud and cloud services to a new level is Yes, one of Malaysia’s leading 4G providers.

Foursquare New Notifications Setting Rolls Out

New Feature?………want it “Always On”?

Foursquare, the app and website which is now famous within the social network community,  has come out with a new notification setting which might raise some eyebrows.

[ad#Google Adsense 336×280]

The new feature “Always On”, allows users to get any notifications or check-ins on their friends, no matter where they are. All they have to do is to toggle the “Always On” button on their friends profile and you are done! Now, you know every where your friends are or have been.

However, this feature is only available to people who have accepted your friends request on foursquare. So, no random stalker, ahem….I mean random person can know when and where you are through this feature.

Foursquare says, the new feature will help users to know information without the hassle of a text or call, to confirm or know where the user is from time to time. Perfect stalking tool if you ask me.

You wouldn’t want someone to know where your secret hideout is accidentally, would ya?

Poor Robin…

Dropbox Users Getting Email Spam?

If you ever thought Dropbox is safe, think again. Apparently, users around Europe are beginning to complain that their emails are getting spam because of leaked email addresses used for their Dropbox accounts.

David P. was the first Dropbox user to post on the company’s Web site forum titled “Email-Address leaked from Dropbox”. He wrote that the email he used only for Dropbox and nothing else was getting lots of spam mail. As the forum continues, users around Germany, U.K. and most of the E.U. countries began to flood the forum with their complaints as well. According to CNET.COM it may have been due to a Dropbox e-mail leak, spambot hitting random emails or a Dropbox integrated third-party app that leaked the addresses.

[ad#Google Adsense 336×280]

Now, I know that there isn’t any news on Asian users yet but do stay vigilant. We never know who is going to be next. However as a precaution, Dropbox users better start checking their e-mails or contents of their Dropbox. You never know what could be lurking in your Dropbox……..

USB On-The-Go for Android Devices!

Rejoice Android users! Now, you can plug in almost any USB accessories in your Android devices. Introducing the USB On-The-GO(USB OTG), an adapter that allows you to do such marvels. The adapter works with several Android devices such as:

  • Samsung Galaxy S II (S2)
  • Samsung Galaxy S III (S3)
  • Galaxy Nexus*
  • Galaxy Nexus 7*
  • Droid RAZR
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab
  • Acer Iconia Tab A200
  • Acer Iconia Tab A500
  • Archos G9
  • Notion Ink Adam
  • Motorola Xoom
  • Toshiba Excite 10
  • Sony Tablet S
[ad#Google Adsense 336×280]

It is still hard to determine which other Android devices supports this USB feature, especially ones with hardware manufacturers (OEM) specifications and boundaries. The USB OTG works with most of the Samsung Android devices easily. As a reminder, the USB host mode for this works only with Android 3.1 and above. However there were some users reporting it working on Android 2.3 too. You might want to do some research on the Android version just to be safe.

Assuming this works with all USB devices, the USB OTG can be a really good tool when you really need to send something in the pendrive when a computer is out of sight. While you won’t see me doing what’s in the pic up there, having Sony PlayStation 3  joystick to play your games is still pretty cool.

Losing the Calories Through Kinect!

Playing games can now come with a weight loss management program. Think its weird or impractical? Well, it isn’t to the Microsoft developers.

Microsoft recently launched the Kinect PlayFit, an update which can be download for Xbox Live subscribers onto their Xbox 360 consoles with Kinect. The Kinect PlayFit is a dashboard that allows Kinect users to see how much calories they have burned playing Kinect titles such as Dance Central 2 and even Star Wars Kinect.

[ad#Google Adsense 336×280]

The fun thing about this dashboard is that you get credits whenever an achievement is complete. Getting rewarded for burning your calories never got this good. Kinect PlayFit will keep a track record of your workout and you can challenge other Xbox Live subscribers using the same application. So, playing with your Kinect will now be fulfilling, fun and healthy! This actually sets a new benchmark towards other companies and rivals of Microsoft such as Nintendo’s Wii and EA’s exercising game titles for the Wii.

The application is only available in US right now however, but you can try to find it in the Xbox Marketplace and see if it is downloadable for the Asian Region, in the near future.
