Riding on the success of the Huawei nova 4, Huawei today unwrapped another selfie-centric smartphone – the nova 4e. As teased earlier, the “baby P30” or P30 Lite as it is known in Europe, the device boasts a massive 32MP AI-enhanced selfie camera, complementing a triple-camera setup on the rear.
With the nova 4e, Huawei more or less sticks to a proven strategy that has seen it sell millions of nova series devices last year. It’s delivering a compelling package (the nova 4e does looks pretty) fused with competitive hardware, strong cameras and a down-to-earth price point.
Aesthetically, the form factor and design will look familiar, with the gradient effect on the hero colourway – Peacock Blue adopting a “next-generation colour manufacturing process.”
Underneath its gleaming body is the mid-range Kirin 710 chipset coupled with a Mali-G72 GPU. Huawei generously packed in 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage into the nova 4e, enhanced further by the AI engine and GPU Turbo 2.0 (for gaming).
Its headline feature is the front 32MP f/2.0 camera with AI-assisted features like AI Calorie Recognition (up to 600 kinds of food), Cat and Dog recognition and AR Translator (10 languages).
The nova 4e is integrated with a 3,340mAh battery that charges via USB Type-C, supporting Quick Charge via the supplied 9V/2A power brick.
It runs EMUI 9.0.1 based on Android 9 Pie.
The Huawei nova 4e is offered in a single configuration: 6GB RAM + 128GB of storage and will retail for MYR1,199. Colour options include Midnight Black, Pearl White and Peacock Blue. The phone will go on pre-order starting 16 March 2019, with first sales happening on 23 March 2019. It can be purchased at all Huawei Experience Stores, Huawei Online Store (https://shop.huawei.com.my), display zones and authorised dealers.
