Honor 9X Lite plays nice with Google and your wallet

Honor 9X Lite

Honor Malaysia today unveiled several new products as part of its Intelligent Lifestyle products portfolio. Making a debut is the wallet-friendly Honor 9X Lite, flanked by Honor Magic Earbuds and Honor Scale 2. The new gadgets will go on sale starting 28 May 2020.

Honor 9X Lite

Strangely it’s taken a while to reach Malaysian shores. The Honor 9X Lite first popped up in February. This follows the Honor 9X that was launched in late 2019. Honor’s “X” portfolio has always been attractive—unabashedly mid-range yes, but well-packaged and offered at a competitive price point. Sharing its underpinnings with the Huawei Nova “i” series, the Honor X series has traditionally performed well in the market.

The Honor 9X Lite is really a rehashed Honor 8X, sharing much of its hardware. This includes the 6.5-inch Full HD+ LCD display (2340×1080) with a notch, and the Kirin 710F processor. You’ll find adequate 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage (upgradable via microSD).

It also inherits the fairly large 3,750mAh battery that sadly charges via prehistoric micro-USB.

The device however, rocks uprated cameras including a 48MP main shooter with 2MP depth camera for bokehlicious photos. Housed in the notch is an 8MP selfie shooter.

In terms of biometric authentication, the phone supports both face unlock and fingerprint recognition via the rear fingerprint scanner.

Out of the box, the Honor 9X Lite runs the older EMUI 9.1 release based on Android 9. What’s great though is that it escapes the US trade ban—Google Mobile Services alongside all Google apps and services come pre-installed.

Pricing and availability

The Honor 9X Lite is priced at MYR699 and will be available for sale starting 28 May 2020. As part of its first-day sale, stand to take home a 10,000mAh Honor powerbank worth MYR149 and a MYR70 online gift coupon for free on hihonor.com. Alternatively, you can also pick up the Honor 9X Lite from Honor’s official store on Shopee and receive a free 10,000mAh Honor powerbank.

The phone is offered in Emerald Green and Midnight Black.
