After teasing for several weeks, honor Malaysia finally revealed its new honor flagship device in Malaysia – the honor 10. Bringing several firsts to the plate for the series, the best part of the stunning device is its price: MYR1,699.
The honor 10 features a stunning “Aurora Glass” body that curves on all sides and blends seamlessly with its metal frame. The shimmering aurora glass design is made of 15 layers of glass, where every single angle is coloured. The result? A mesmerising ever-changing aurora sheen.
It’s an engineering marvel and a testament of honor’s craftsmanship, seen also on Huawei’s flagship P20. You may want to keep a cleaning cloth nearby or keep the unit in the bundled transparent case because it’s an instant fingerprint magnet.
Nonetheless, it’s a looker.
Underneath, the honor 10 does not disappoint. Like the impressive honor View10, the device uses the latest 10nm octa-core Kirin 970 chipset that comes with a built-in NPU. The combination gives the honor 10 the artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities that’s critical in its operations.
The intelligent chip is mated to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The new flagship is the first honor device to sport a notched display, not that it’s a feature. The 5.84-inch bezel-less FullView 2.0 FHD+ display is vibrant and crisp, with a 19:9 screen aspect ratio.
If there was an area the honor series has traditionally been strong in, it would be in the camera department.
The main shooter is a 24MP + 16MP dual-camera system with f/1.8 aperture lenses. The cameras are AI-assisted, boasting an industry-first Semantic Image Segmentation technology that is able to identify multiple objects within a single image and optimises them accordingly.
It transcends just recognising a scene or category, a step up even from the honor 10’s closest cousin the P20 and P20 Pro. Speaking of which, the camera recognises 500 different scenes across 22 categories.
One thing you’ll notice within the camera UI is the “AI” button which can toggle AI assistance on or off.
Another plus is the advanced and precise face recognition that gives you accurate bokeh from the 24MP front camera.
In terms of security and authentication, the honor 10 packs an Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor located under the glass at the front of the phone. This is one of the first devices in Malaysia to feature this technology. By the way, the honor 10 also supports face unlock out-of-the-box.
Keeping the device juiced is a 3,400mAh battery that should give you all-day battery life. Honor bundles a Super Charge power brick in the box, which honor claims can charge 50 percent in just 25 minutes.
The phone runs the latest EMUI 8.1 out-of-the-box, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
