Garmin Venu Sq: The Venu goes square

Garmin Venu Sq

Garmin Malaysia today took the wraps of new additions to its Venu lifestyle series with the Venu Sq and Venu Sq Music Edition. The new Venu series, now with a rectangular watch face fuses Garmin’s famed health monitoring and fitness features with outstanding battery life. The Music Edition boasts on-device music storage and out-of-the-box Spotify compatibility.

The fashionably sleek fitness watch features a 1.3-inch rectangular touchscreen display now protected with Corning Gorilla Glass for added durability.

The watch is available in six colour options: orchid/metallic orchid, white/light gold, and shadow gray/slate for the Venu Sq; light sand/rose gold, navy/light gold, moss/slate and black/slate for the Music Edition.

The Venu Sq is 20 per cent lighter than the Venu, designed with a lightweight aluminium bezel and silicone band.

As expected from a Garmin device, the Venu Sq series boasts cutting edge 24/7 Elevate heart rate monitoring, which samples heart rate multiple times per second, 24 hours a day.

The watch also features advanced sleep monitoring features with Pulse Ox2, respiration tracking, abnormal heart rate alerts (high and low), menstrual cycle tracking, stress tracking with relax reminders, hydration tracking, and more.

Body Battery energy monitoring lets you monitor your energy level throughout the day, helping you to schedule workouts, rest times, and sleep.

When the situation calls you to “just breathe,” you can access four mindful breathing activities—“Tranquility” to promote sleep; “Coherence” to promote balance and calm; “Relax and Focus” to encourage concentration and stress relief.

In terms of fitness features, the Venu Sq offers over 20 built-in indoor and outdoor sports apps including Pilates, yoga, strength training, running, pool swimming, cycling, and golf, among others.

It’s robust suite of workout options include preloaded workouts on the watch, preset workouts available to download from Garmin Connect, and also “create your own” customisable workouts.

The Venu Sq is compatible with Garmin Coach.

As a smart watch, the Venu Sq comes with a host of smart features including notifications, music storage, safety and tracking, personalisation, and wide compatibility with Android and iOS devices.

You can receive notifications for incoming calls, text messages, social media updates, calendar reminders, and more. The watch can now also recognise Chinese characters. Android users can reply to text messages from the device.

With the Venu Sq Music Edition, you can download songs or playlists from third party music services like Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music. Alternatively, you can copy MP3 music files to the device.

The watch has 4GB of built-in memory to store music.

The Venu Sq offers incident detection during outdoor walks, runs or rides. When it detects an incident, it will display an onscreen notification. If there is not input from you within 15 seconds, the watch will send real-time location to emergency contacts.

The LiveTrack feature lets friends and family track your activity in real time.

You can personalise the Venu Sq by downloading apps, widgets, watch faces, and more from the Garmin Connect IQ store. You can even upload your own photos and turn them into watch faces.

Pricing and availability

The Venu Sq is priced at MYR999 while the Garmin Venu Sq Music Edition retails for MYR1,250.

The watch is available on Lazada, Shopee, AECO Online Shop and all authorised Garmin retailers.

Buyers of the Venu Sq will receive a limited edition batik watch band designed in collaboration with Malaysian deigner, Seza Zulkeple, while stocks last.
