The drone and UAV trend continues to grow, and there was plenty of cool ones to catch at CES 2017. Wingsland Technology, a drone maker based in Shenzhen, China, has unleashed the world’s smallest 4K 30 UHD video pocket drone.
Helping people take selfies seems to be the proposition Wingsland is pushing to consumers, specifically womenfolk. The new Wingsland S6 is simple to use, and includes an auto-follow feature. Definitely useful on those hiking trips.
Selfie-loving men and women aside, Wingsland believes the S6 will also appeal to drone enthusiasts. Coming to market in Q2 2017 is the Wingsland S6 remote with smartphone connectivity – to help you fly the drone with a tactile joystick feel.
The cool thing about the S6 is its flexibility. There are plenty of add-on accessories. For kids, you can even add a foam cannon accessory, emoji screen or spotlight function. The foam cannon has a six-round repeating rifle, and you can aim via the FPV screen.
Wingsland says that an add-on six-way sensor that gives you all-round obstacle avoidance is currently in development.
The S6 is remarkably small for its capabilities, having only a 5.4-inch footprint (138 x 79 x 32.6mm). It weighs 250g with battery.
In the optical department, the S6 uses a Sony IMX214 sensor with a 117-degree f/2.2 aspherical lens with auto distortion. The camera shoots 4K at 30fps and Full HD at 60fps. It is capable of shooting slowmotion, or point of interest videos.
It uses 3-axis electronic image stabilization to ensure steady shots.
Aside from video, the S6 shoots 13MP stills.
Under the hood, the S6 uses a three CPUs, packs a barometer, dual-GPS, ultrasonic altimeter and optical flow sensor.
Flight time from the 1,400mAh battery is 10 minutes, and it has a maximum transmission distance of 220m.
In terms of drone specific functions it boasts one-key and auto landing/take-off; one-key return to home; Point-of-Interest; Follow Me; 360-degree video; and flipping.
The powerful full-featured smartphone app supports 720p FPV live view and gives your detailed controls, data and training.
