ASUS ExpertBook B9 takes on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon

ASUS ExpertBook B9

What makes a business notebook? Is it performance? Security? Durability? Reliability? Ultra-portability? Well, ASUS’ new ExpertBook B9 (B9450) looks to meet all of the above, and then some. Should ThinkPad fans be worried?

Aim squarely at business professionals, the ExpertBook B9 tips the scale at an astonishing 870g (sorry LG and Acer) and measures just 14.9mm thick. This makes it the world’s lightest 14-inch business notebook.

Thanks to its near bezel-less NanoEdge display, it offers a 14-inch display in a 13-inch notebook chassis pushing an isnt’-it-incredible 94 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

Don’t let its svelte form fool you. The ExpertBook B9 is all about performance—with up to a 10th Gen Intel Core vPro processor with Intel UHD Graphics 620, backed by up to 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM, dual-storage design with two ultrafast 2TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs and next-gen Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) connectivity.

It offers a full range of IO ports including two Thunderbolt 3 and micro-HDMI ports, as well as the innovative ASUS NumberPad 2.0 built into the large touchpad.

The notebook offers a spill-resistant, backlit chiclet keyboard enhanced with the ErgoLift hinge for an optimum typing experience.

Its magnesium-lithium alloy chassis features a Star Black finish and what’s great is its robust military-grade durability. The notebook is certified MIL-STD-810G, having survived torturous drop, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, humidity, sand- and dust exposure tests.

Security is ensured thanks to a Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM) security chip, webcam shield and built-in IR camera for biometric authentication.

Expect up to 12 hours of juice with the two-cell 33Whr battery. Alternatively, the 66Whr option will deliver as much as 24 hours of use under the same workload. Both options offer fast-charging—taking onlky 30 minutes to charge from 0-60 per cent charge.

The only downside of taking the bigger battery unit—the B9 ends up slightly heavier, at 995g.

In terms of audio, the B9 features omnidirectional far-field microphones, smart amplifier technology, and Harman Kardon-certified speakers. It supports Amazon Alexa out-of-the-box.

The new notebook features the latest version of MyASUS software, allowing for seamless integration with mobile devices using the Link MyASUS mobile app.
