The much-awaited Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro is now available to order on the Apple online store and will be arriving to customers next week. The cool-looking keyboard cover adds a new level of versatility and capability to the iPad Pro, and is the perfect complement to the new trackpad support introduced in iPadOS 13.4.
Announced last month, the 2020 iPad Pro pushes Apple’s pro tablet further into “laptop” territory and some new trickery of its own, including a fancy LiDAR scanner.
What makes you go “wow” though is the almost iMac-looking, floating Magic Keyboard. The keyboard magnetically attaches the iPad Pro and holds the tablet up with a cantilevered design that allows for smooth adjustments of viewing angle of up to 130 degrees.
The keyboard itself is a full-size chiclet keyboard with backlit keys (yes, finally) and a scissor mechanism that gives you 1mm of travel. I never had a problem with the iPad Pro keyboard so this, with the added backlit feature, should work great.
The big difference of course is the click-anywhere trackpad for those who prefer touch and gestures not available on a traditional mouse.
There’s USB-C pass-through charging via the integrated port on the hinge, freeing up the USB-C port on the iPad Pro itself for other accessories.
As an added security feature, when the Magic Keyboard is attached to the iPad Pro and closed, the microphones on the iPad are disconnected.
The new hardware takes full advantage of the new features of iPadOS. Apple has really optimised the iPadOS experience—the pointer elegantly transforms to highlight different user interface elements.
Familiar multi-touch gestures you find on macOS makes it easy for you to navigate and works great regardless if you’re writing and editing in Pages or Word, creating a presentation with Keynote, or building a large spreadsheet in Numbers.
The new Magic Keyboard works with the new 2020 iPad Pro (4th Gen) as well as previous-generation iPad Pro models.
