At the Redmi Note 8 launch in Malaysia on Tuesday, Xiaomi introduced three true wireless earbuds for different segments of the market, starting at just MYR99. In typical Xiaomi fashion, they pack plenty but offered an accessible pricing.
Apple’s AirPods may be the most popular true wireless earbuds in the world, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t alternatives. For those who don’t use Apple devices there are myriad choices including those from Samsung, Jabra, Sony, JBL, and also Xiaomi.
Following its offerings previously that also include the Redmi Air Dots, Xiaomi announced a trio of true wireless earbuds to the Malaysian market.
Mi True Wireless Earphones
The flagship Mi True Wireless Earphones may be a worthy AirPods challenger, offered at half the price.
The charging case looks AirPods-inspired but the buds look to be a better-designed hence better-fitting with silicone gels. The case, equipped with a USB-C port, can give the earbuds up to 10 hours of continuous music playback.
It offers easy pairing and auto-connects when you open the case. Music playback automatically stops when either earpiece is removed from the ear. They can also work independently for answering phone calls.
Touch controls let you tap or double tap to play/pause music, answer/end calls or activate voice assistants.
Mi True Wireless Earbuds and Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic
The Mi True Wireless Earbuds resemble the Redmi AirDots that didn’t officially make it into the local market. Audio is delivered from 7.2mm dynamic drivers through Bluetooth 5.0. They come in a charging case that can offer up to a total of 12 hours of mus playback.
The earbuds come with intuitive touch controls—one tap can play/pause music, take/end calls, or even activate voice assistants.
The Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic do not come with touch controls but instead offer more conventional physical control buttons.
Pricing and availability
Mi True Wireless Earphones retails at MYR329 while the Mi True Wireless Earbuds and Basic models retail for MYR179 and MYR99 respectively.
