Xiaomi Mi 11 Malaysia: Top of the class

Xiaomi Mi 11

Announced globally in early February, the Mi 11, Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphone, is launching in Malaysia. True to Xiaomi’s DNA, the Mi 11 packs ground-breaking tech without breaking the bank. This includes Qualcomm’s latest and greatest silicon—the Snapdragon 888 chipset, a whopping 108MP triple camera, cinematic audio, and 50W superfast wireless charging.

No surprise, it’s all about the camera

Riding on the back of the Mi 10T Pro, in itself one of the most highly-rated smartphones today, the Mi 11 pushes the limits even further. Xiaomi markets its new flagship as “the ultimate pocket-sized movie studio,” promising to turn any novice photo or video enthusiast into a film director.

Yes, it’s a tall order, but Xiaomi surely hasn’t held back on the technology front. The triple rear camera setup consists of the highest resolution 108MP wide-angle sensor coupled with a superfast f/1.85 aperture 7P lens. It uses a large 1/1.33-inch Samsung HMX sensor and comes with OIS and large 0.8-micron pixel size (1.6-micron pixel 4-in-1 Super Pixel).

The secondary 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera boasts a 123-degree field of view mated to an f/2.4 aperture lens. Finally, a 5MP f/2.4 telemacro camera with AF lets you get really close to your subjects (3cm-10cm).

What’s interesting is that Night Mode is available across all three cameras.

Pushing the cinematic videography agenda further, the Mi 11 offers six one-click AI cinema modes as well as 4K HDR10+ video recording.

Xiaomi has also incorporated AI Erase 2.0 and several stunning video effects to aid users’ movie-making.

Over on the front, you’ll find a 20MP in-display selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture lens and 0.8-micron pixel (1.6 micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel).

Dynamic display, superior sound

The Mi 11 sports a 6.81-inch AMOLED DotDisplay, rated A+ by DisplayMate. The bezel-less quad-curved display, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, incorporates hardware-level mistouch prevention. It boasts WQHD+ resolution and HDR10+ for stunning detail, contrast and clarity. Additionally, Xiaomi’s Super Resolution technology automatically uprates low resolution up to WQHD+ quality.

10-bit colour technology ensures smooth colour transitions and gradients, while 120Hz AdaptiveSync dynamically adjusts content frame rate for an optimal viewing experience. This plus the ultrafast 480Hz touch sampling rate makes for an immersive, responsive gaming experience.

The display also offers an in-screen fingerprint sensor and built-in heart rate monitoring, a feature that will be unlocked in a future OTA update.

Complementing the industry-leading display are stereo speakers tuned by SOUND by Harman Kardon.

Faster than fast

Never one to settle, Xiaomi has engaged the services of Qualcomm’s latest and greatest silicon yet—the 5nm octa-core Snapdragon 888 chipset. The cutting-edge SoC boasts an ultra-large core Arm Cortex-X1 coupled with the Adreno 660 GPU and 6th generation Qualcomm Ai engine. The chipset comes integrated with an X60 modem for lightning-fast 5G connectivity and also offers Wi-Fi 6.

It’s all ready for 5G even if Malaysia and some countries aren’t ready.

The Mi 11 offers 8GB LPDDR5 3200MHz RAM with up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The built-in 4,600mAh battery supports 55W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging. A 55W GaN charger is supplied in the box.
