Mi Note 10 Lite takes on Galaxy Note 10 Lite

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite

Xiaomi today unveiled the new Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro to the Malaysian market. But, there was “one more thing.” The China technology giant slipped in the Mi Note 10 Lite that squares off with the Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite.

So, is it better? The Mi Note 10 Lite packs a 6.47-inch FHD+ 3D curved AMOLED display and comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G. It gets ample 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

The phone comes with a 3D glass body protected by Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides and is offered in three colours—Nebula Purple, Glacier White, and Midnight Black.

While it shares many underpinnings with its Mi Note 10 siblings, the key differentiator is in the camera department. Instead of a penta-camera system found on the Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro, the Lite features a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro shooter. Not shabby in all accounts.

For selfies, the 16MP front camera conceals itself in a tiny notch at the top of the display.

Powering the Mi Note 10 Lite is a massive 5,260mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging via USB-C. A full charge takes just 64 minutes.

Xiaomi has retained must-loved features including NFC, IR blaster, and the 3.5mm headphone jack.

In the ring: Galaxy Note10

To compare, the Galaxy Note10 Lite comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display featuring a 32MP punch-hole camera and an in-display fingerprint scanner. In the camera front, it packs a triple-cam system comprising a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens with dual-pixel and OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 12MP telephoto lens with OIS.

Powering the device is the 10nm Exynos 9810 and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

Keeping this juiced is a 4,500mAh battery that charges via USB-C. It supports 25W Super Fast Charging and a 25W power brick is included in the box.

If you compare specs to specs, the Mi Note 10 Lite and Galaxy Note10 Lite are pretty evenly matched. The Mi Note 10 Lite however, undercuts Samsung’s entry-level Note device by a substantial MYR700. A purchase decision would highly depend on whether you require a stylus or not, offered only on Samsung’s Note series.

That said, both are exceptionally solid buys.

The ball’s in your court, consumer.

Pricing and availability

The Mi Note 10 Lite retails for MYR1,599 and is available for purchase starting 12 May 2020. Purchase from Xiaomi Malaysia’s Lazada Flagship Store and get a free Mi Business Backpack (worth MYR99) or receive a free Redmi Powerbank 20,000mAh (worth MYR99) when you purchase from an authorised Mi Store.
