With Malaysia Day looming, it is perfect timing that another instalment of the cutting-edge Maxis Rojak 360° film series is released. Gading Merah, a film by award-winning storyteller Junad Mohd Nor is now available on Maxis’ YouTube channel.
The film joins three other films in the series, by YouTube superstars: The Ming Thing and RED People; and Tamil hit movie directors Veedu.
Shot entirely in 360 degress, the short films encircle around the central theme of “See Malaysia From All Angles,” where viewers can pan and look around to appreciate the beauty of a scene in the film. The film series is a celebration of Malaysia’s colourful diversity – its unique local dialects, little-known cultural traditions, and beauty in different corners of the country.
“The film Gading Merah emphasizes the importance of solidarity and unity. Because when we are united, nothing is impossible,” said Junad Mohd Nor, whose breakout film Ikal Maya’s Odah showed at the world famous Busan International Film Festival recently.
Maxis employees were treated to a special preview of Junad’s film, complete with popcorn and VR lenses. They were also treated to two other Maxis 4G films which were released earlier – the heartwarming Merdeka 2016 film The Last Kite Maker (you must watch this) and The Road Trip.
Mazlan Mokhtar, Maxis’ head of southern region, who had a big part to play in the Kite Maker film, was at the premiere to share his experience in the making of the story.
