Vivo NEX 3 5G: Malaysia’s first 5G phone is here

Vivo NEX 3 5G

While we continue to wait with bated breath for 5G to be commercially available in the country, vivo isn’t sitting back for that day to come. The Chinese smartphone maker today launched the vivo NEX 3 5G, officially the first 5G smartphone in Malaysia.

The powerful flagship device boasts a beautiful Waterfall FullView display—a fancy name for the glorious screen that wraps around the edges. Aside from a tiny chin and forehead, the display is near bezel-less, pushing an astonishing 99.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display itself is a 6.89-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel.

What you’ll notice is that there are no physical buttons on the side; in place is a pressure-sensitive capacitive button that has haptic feedback.

The phone comes in a single colourway—Glowing Night.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855+ processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 (with TurboWrite) storage.

In the optics department, the NEX 3 5G features a triple-camera setup that’s  housed in a circular bump, like the new Huawei Mate 30. The camera system consists of a 64MP rear shooter, 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 13MP telephoto camera.

Like the previous generation NEX series devices, the NEX 3 5G features an elevating front camera—a 16MP unit.

Keeping things juiced is a large 4,500mAh battery that charges via USB-C. In the box, you’ll get a 22.5W (10V/2.25A) Flash Charge power brick.

The device retains a conventional 3.5mm headphone jack.

The vivo NEX 3 5G runs the latest, refreshed FunTouch OS 9.1 UI, based on Android 9 Pie.

As 5G is not expected to be available until the second half of 2020, the vivo NEX 3 5G’s next generation connectivity is a novelty at best at this point, but at least it will be future-proof.
