To-Fu Oyako Creators, DevilRobots Invade Tokyo Street, Pavilion KL

Everybody Loves To-fu!

The cute but melancholic To-Fu Oyako characters may be known to some, especially design folk (yours truly included) locally. Created by creative heads DevilRobots from Tokyo, Japan, To-Fu Oyako is highly popular in its country of origin as well as globally. To-fu figurines and paraphernalia are collectors’ items. The last I’ve seen DevilRobots live was way back in 2004/2005 at the IDN Conference in Singapore. Thanks to Action City, DevilRobots with its renowned Creator and Art Director, Shinichiro Kitai, made its first ever appearance at Tokyo Street, Pavilion KL.

To commemorate their first ever appearance here, DevilRobots created three special To-fus for Tokyo Street, named TTS (Tofu Tokyo Street). Shoppers came in droves to purchase exclusive DevilRobots merchandise including t-shirts, stationeries, soft toys and more. There was plenty of photo opportunities at the exhibition as well where the popular PRIKURA was featured – Japanese photo sticker machine with preset To-fu Tokyo Street designed picture borders for shoppers to have their customized photos taken. Lucky shoppers who purchased items during the exhibition received exclusive autographs and illustrations by Shinichiro Kitai himself.

It was my first ever time at Tokyo Street and I really like the concept and ambience. There’s interesting array of shops and plenty of yummilicious Japanese food. Head down to Tokyo Street, and check out the “Little Tokyo” of Malaysia.
