Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) will be holding a special media briefing session tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 July 2018. As mentioned in an email invite, the session will see TM sharing the latest company updates. So, no onions then.
After the announcement that never was during Ramadan, the upcoming media briefing looks to be one of a more serious note. Chaired by Datuk Bazlan Osman, TM’s executive director and acting group chief executive officer, and Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali, TM’s group chief financial officer, the session will be held at the TM Convention Centre.
Following the sudden departure of Dato’ Sri Mohammad Shazalli Ramly on June 6, the shortest serving CEO in TM’s history, things haven’t been rosy for the company.
TM shares have taken a tumble in the past 12 months – 43 percent to be exact, although they did rise slightly upon Shazalli’s exit.
TM Group’s net profit has also seen a drop of 32 percent, down from MYR230.4 million to MYR157.1 million for Q12018.
Revenue is also 3.9 percent lower, with the group posting MYR2.85 billion for Q1 2018.
Based on its quarterly financial report, total fixed broadband customers have dipped, attributed to the decline of Streamyx customers.
On the upside, unifi uptake increased by 4.5 percent. The company currently has 1.18 million unifi customers, with its mobile business reaching 10 percent penetration of TM’s households.
Its mobility business – unifi mobile isn’t doing to shabbily either. Thanks to its aggressive #BEBAS campaign, there are more than 1.3 million SIMs in the market now.
The convergence champion says 45 percent of TM households have triple-play (3P) service and above, meaning a combination of phone, broadband, mobile and TV.
It continues to plough the convergence route, recently launching unifi Wireless Broadband, a flexible, affordable solution for home renters.
It’s been highly speculated that TM will introduce its rumoured “magic box” broadband service, but the company has so far been mum over the matter.
This time around I’m doubting that there’s any specific product announcements per se, but I could be wrong. We’ll have to see tomorrow.
What do you think?
