Following Apple’s official global announcement on its iPhone battery replacement program, Apple Premium Resellers Machines and Switch have jumped on board to offer similar deals to Malaysian consumers. The program offers discounted battery replacements for iPhone SE, iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X.
The global iPhone battery replacement program is valid from December 2017 until 31 December 2018. The price for the battery replacement is MYR129 (SRP: MYR350) inclusive of labour charges and GST.
Expect a standard repair turnaround time of 5-7 working days. The repair program is available at all Switch Service Centres nationwide, starting from 3 January 2018.
Note that the battery replacement service is subject to eligibility according to the physical condition of the iPhone. For instance, if there’s a cracked screen that may impair the replacement of the battery, the screen issue may need to be rectified prior to the battery exchange. There may be extra cost associated with the repair.
Ensure sure that you back up your iPhone and turn off the Find My iPhone (FMiP) feature before you head over to the service centre.
Why change your iPhone battery?
As a refresher, Apple recently admitted that it reduced processor speeds on older iPhones with degraded or aged batteries. This was to mitigate issues with unexpected shutdowns and preserve battery life.
The move sparked controversy with some iPhone owners, and Apple reacted swiftly with an official apology for not communicating the action and its intentions clearly enough. The Cupertino tech giant then announced that it would offer out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement for a steep discount.
Since the throttling issue only affects some older iPhones with degraded batteries, namely the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, owners of newer iPhones (although covered by the program) have little or nothing to worry about.
For owners of old iPhones, it’s a great opportunity to “inject new life” to their old devices.
