Not again. Selangor’s water woes continue as the state experiences its second disruption, this time due to the contamination of Sungai Semenyih. Over 300,000 households are expected to be affected by water cuts.
Utility provider Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (“Air Selangor”) said in an official statement that the contamination of the river has caused the water treatment plants in Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi to cease operations.
The shutdown affects some 274 areas and 309,6i7 accounts, involving Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, and Sepang districts.
“Air Selangor” has activated an Emergency Action Plan to help affected customers following the incident,” said Elina Baseri, Air Selangor’s head of communications.
The incident has been reported to the state’s water authority – Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) and is in the midst of investigating the source of the raw water solution.
When water supply can resume cannot be ascertained at this juncture.
