Samsung is set to unpack its flagship Galaxy Note9 smartphone on 9 August, but it looks like that isn’t the only thing it will be revealing. It appears that the #1 smartphone maker may debut a new fast wireless charger that can charge two devices at the same time. Eat your heart out Apple AirPower Mat.
Serial leakster Roland Quandt on Twitter posted images of the new charger called the Wireless Charge Duo. The design is wholly different from the current fast wireless charger that Samsung sells, with an extended pad beside the main cradle.
From the packaging, it is revealed that the new charger can support fast wireless charging for both devices: either two smartphones or a phone and a Qi-certified accessory. It comes bundled with a 25W wall charger.
What’s interesting is that it mentions the Galaxy Watch, a new branding for Samsung’s Gear line of smartwatches that may be revealed at the upcoming Samsung Unpacked event in New York.
Samsung’s last smartwatch was the Gear Sport, a sport-oriented model launched last year. There’s also the more premium-looking Gear S3 and Gear S3 Frontier, and Gear Fit 2 Pro fitness tracker.
It looks like Samsung is dropping the “Gear” branding for its new line of wearables. Could this also happen to its Gear VR headset? It would make plenty of sense streamlining the brand name across its galaxy of devices.
The Galaxy Watch is rumoured to run Google’s new Wear OS, but some sources hint of a possible two versions – one running Samsung’s proprietary Tizen OS. It is also rumoured that the new Galaxy Watch will feature a new UX and new blood-pressure monitoring hardware.
Will both the Wireless Charger Duo and Galaxy Watch debut with the Galaxy Note9? Stay tuned on 9 August.
