Samsung packs muscle behind Windows 8, launches expanded ATIV family

And just when you were wondering when Samsung would give its Windows 8-based products some muscle, the Korean consumer electronics giant unleashes an ensemble of new ATIV devices at the Samsung Premiere 2013 event at Earls Court Two, London. Samsung unleashed the ATIV Book 9 Plus, ATIV Book 9 Lite, ATIV One 5 Style, ATIV Q and ATIV Tab 3, further expanding the ATIV family.

The ATIV line is Samsung’s Windows-based brand of computing devices that include desktop PCs, notebooks, convertibles, tablets and mobile phones. Samsung also debuted a new feature called HomeSync Lite that transforms PC hard drives into a personal cloud server.

ATIV Book 9 Plus

The ATIV Book 9 Plus is a premium ultrathin, ultralight notebook, moulded from aluminium. The unibody design is a result of 33,000 hours of craftsmanship that offers a premium touchscreen 13.3″ QHD+ (3200×1800) display, and 12 hours of battery life on a single charge. Powering the device is an Intel Core i5 or i5 processor with Intel HD 4400 graphics, up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB SSD storage. The notebook comes in Ash Black and weighs in at a scant 1.39kg.

ATIV Book 9 Lite

The ATIV Book 9 Lite takes the best of its premium Book 9 sibling and is made for the mass consumer. The 13.3″ (1366×768) display offers ten-point multi-touch. Measuring less than an inch thick, the Book 9 Lite is powered by the quad-core processor running up to 1.4Ghz. Memory is a commendable 4GB with storage options of up to 256GB SSD.

ATIV One 5 Style

The ATIV One 5 Style is an all-in-one desktop PC bearing the sleek GALAXY design. The 21.5″ full HD (1920×1080) touchscreen display is ideal for work and play. In the heart of the PC is an AMD A6 quad-core processor with 4GB of memory and up to 1TB of storage.

The ATIV Q is a truly convertible device, with the ability to switch between Windows and Android. The talented tablet sports a new innovative hinge design that transforms the tablet into four functional modes. The ATIV Q is extremely thin and lightweight and built for optimum portability, weighing in at 1.29kg and only 13.9mm. The ATIV Q also introduces the world’s highest resolution QHD+ (3200×1800) display. The 13.3-inch touchscreen is 2.8 times higher in pixel density (275PPI) than full HD displays. the ATIV Q also includes S-Pen functionality.

The ATIV Tab 3 boasts being the world’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet – as thin as popular smartphones, and shares the same distinct design of the GALAXY family of devices. The tablet is ideal for work and play with improved S-Pen functionality and compatibility with MS Office. The frame is ultrathin and light at only 8.2mm thick and 550g in weight. The ATIV Tab 3 features up to 10 hours of battery life, and comes preloaded with Office Home & Student.

HomeSync – Backup, Access, Manage Content

All three new ATIV products come with SideSync making content easily shared between the devices and a GALAXY smartphone. Additionally, HomeSync Lite makes it easy to back-up and manage, access content on a smartphone.
