Samsung Notebook Series 5 ULTRA – Samsung Introduces Its First UltraBook

The UltraBook scene is quickly getting crowded, with all PC vendors jumping quickly on the bandwagon with ultra-thin, ultra-light portables and making Intel very, very happy. Not to be outdone, Samsung, the global giant in consumer electronics has just introduced to the Malaysian market, their interpretation of the ultrabook – the brand new Samsung Notebook Series 5 ULTRA.

Available in 13″ and 14″ screen sizes, the new Samsung Notebook Series 5 ULTRA range from just 14.9-17.6mm thin and 1.45kg light. Thin and light in form factor doesn’t equal thin and light in performance, as the new ultraportable proves with the 2nd generation Intel Core i5-2467M (1.60Ghz) processor. The i5-2467M is an (ULV) Ultra Low Voltage processor based on Intel’s Sandy Bridge micro-architecture, yet packs a punch in overall performance. With up to 8GB of memory and combined with ExpressCache by Diskeeper, the new ultraportable also comes with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU or a powerful AMD Radeon HD graphics card. Thanks to its Sandy Bridge underpinnings, the Samsung Notebook Series 5 fast boots in just 20 seconds, with almost instant wake-up from sleep.

Crisp and bright visuals is assured with Samsung’s superior LCD technology featuring 300nit HD LED SuperBright screen, Image Enhancer technology and anti-reflective screen.

In terms of storage, the Samsung Notebook Series 5 ULTRA offers up to 1TB (for the 14″ model).

For input output and expansion capabilities, it is equipped with a full-size HDMI port along with one USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, 4-in-1 multi SD card slot, Ethernet and a 1.3M HD webcam. The Series 5 ULTRA 14” also features an integrated Optical Disc Drive, which is rare where ultrabooks are concerned.

While not the industry’s best, the Series 5 ULTRA delivers up to 6.4 hours of battery life on a single charge. The built-in Samsung Battery Life Plus technology helps keep 80% of the cell’s original capacity in a life cycle lasting up to 1,500 charging cycles over 3 years. That’s five times longer than other notebooks in the market.

The Series 5 ULTRA runs 64-bit Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium.

The Series 5 ULTRA 530U 13″ retails at RM2,699 and the Series 5 ULTRA 530U 14″ is going for RM2,999. Both are available now.
