PROTON outs more Proton X50 videos ahead of launch

2020 Proton X50 Preview

Ahead of the imminent Proton X50 launch on Tuesday, 27 October 2020, PROTON has released a slew of promo videos that showcase the SUV’s features including design, performance, safety, and infotainment system. The Proton X50 will be hosted virtually via a Facebook livestream, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The national carmaker had in September, opened the pre-order books for its second SUV.

The Proton X50 will come in four variants: 1.5T Standard, 1.5T Executive, 1.5T Premium, and 1.5 TGDi Flagship.

The range-topping 1.5 TGDi Flagship (yes the flagship is called a Flagship), powered by the 1.5-litre three cylinder direct injection turbo (TGDi) gasoline engine that pushes 174bhp (177PS) @ 5,500rpm and 255Nm of torque @ 1,500-4,000rpm.

The other models in the line-up use a three-cylinder port-injection gasoline engine that outputs 148bhp (150PS) and 226Nm of torque.

Both engine options are mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, similar to the Proton X70.

The 1.5L TGDi model is claimed to return 6.4L/100km fuel consumption while the 1.5L T models deliver 6.5L/100km.

Based on the Geely Binyue, the Proton X50 adopts the handsome lines of its Chinese sibling. PROTON, however, has enhanced the styling of its SUV, reflecting the new corporate logo and Malaysian identity including the infinite weave grille and hunting-bow inspired grille.

The high-tech SUV runs the latest GKUI 19, which is substantially more responsive plus with reworked UI and feature enhancements.

In terms of safety features, the X50 packs the famed 360-degree camera system, latest Advanced Driver Assistant (ADAS) 2.0, six SRS airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, stability control, and more. ADAS encapsulates Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). I would expect nothing less than a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, as with most of PROTON’s current fleet of vehicles. Note that these features are variant-dependent.

The Proton X50 is officially a 5-star ASEAN NCAP graduate.

Catch the Proton X50 livestream launch on Facebook at 10.50AM tomorrow, 27 October.
