Proton’s little wunderkind – Proton Iriz – has picked up another award before the end of the year. This time, it’s the Budget Car of the Year at the 2016 ASEAN Car of the Year (ACOTY).
Fresh from clinching several awards at the Malaysia Car of the Year Award 2016, Proton said it is pleased with the recognition, considering the Iriz was launched two years ago.
The Iriz is Proton’s entry into the compact car segment, also known as the B-segment – a popular segment amongst Malaysians. The zippy handler is 5-star rated by ASEAN NCAP for safety, boasting passive and active safety features. This includes ESC with traction control, ABS with EBD, brake assist, hill hold assist (HHA) and seat belt reminder (SBR) system.
Proton is also the only ASEAN auto company to adopt a German technology called Hot Press Forming (HPF) that provides 5x more strength than conventional steel. Higher structural rigidity provides better protection to our customers.
Under the hood, the Iriz is powered by a four-cylinder VVT lump in a choice of five-speed manual or CVT transmission. It comes in Standard and Executive trim for the 1.3-litre option, while the top-rung 1.6-litre gets Executive and Premium options – priced from MYR41,520 to MYR62,030.
The 1.3-litre is rated at 94bhp/70kW and 120Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, while the 1.6-litre variant pulls 107bhp/80kW and 150Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.
Alongside a great cabin and Proton’s signature ride and handling, the Iriz is compelling buy for those who love a great handling compact.
Exclusive for December, Proton is offering some attractive rebates ranging from MYR2,200 to MYR4,000. Additionally, it is giving 2-year free service or 40,000km, whichever comes first, for all variants.
