After teasing for a couple of weeks, the dazzling OPPO R17 Pro is here in Malaysia. Launched with much fanfare, the shimmering number from OPPO comes with a triple camera setup and a hefty price tag.
The OPPO R17 Pro boasts a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch. It’s the world’s first smartphone to feature Gorilla Glass 6, Corning’s toughest smartphone glass to date that’s claimed to withstand consecutive drops.
Under the hood, it gets a Snapdragon 710 chipset that’s coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. Unfortunately, there’s no expandable storage.
Aesthetically, from the front it looks like the OPPO F9 and turn it around and you’ll see semblance of the Huawei Mate 10, thanks to its vertical camera array.
The body is slabs of curved glass sandwiched to a metal frame, with an intriguing colour gradient treatment that changes under different angles and lighting conditions. It’s available in Radiant Mist (Blue-Purple) and Emerald Green.
While you admire the striking exterior, OPPO would want you to be impressed with the camera on the OPPO R17 Pro. To be honest, it does look very good, at least judging from the spec sheet and some sample photos I’ve seen floating around the interweb.
The triple-camera system comprises a 12MP f/1.5-2.4 variable aperture lens, a 20MP f/2.6 secondary shooter and a 3D depth sensor. The main camera comes with optical image stabilisation.
If you’ve been blown away by the Huawei Mate 20 Pro’s amazing Night Mode, you may be impressed with the OPPO R17 Pro’s Ultra Night Mode, too.
On the front, there’s a 25MP selfie shooter with AI Beautification.
A couple of nifty extras on this phone is the in-display fingerprint scanner and Super VOOC Flash Charge which charges up the 3,700mAh battery via USB Type-C. The new 50W Super VOOC charger can pump 0-40 percent charge in just 10 minutes.
