Here’s the Proton X70 in full glory

Proton X70 KLIMS 2018

It’s been teased and previewed to death, and finally, PROTON has properly unveiled its first ever SUV – the Proton X70 at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS). The much-awaited vehicle can be viewed at the PROTON booth from 23 November to 2 December 2018.

PROTON has been super sheepish about its maiden SUV to the point that it’s annoying. Thankfully, the vehicle is now available to view in entirety, inside and outside.

The carmaker has five units on display at the motor show, with special areas to give visitors a unique hands-on experience of the technology and equipment fitted to the car.

Proton X70 KLIMS 2018As you may know, the Proton X70 is most technologically advanced model in Proton’s fleet. The vehicle boasts Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and a 360-camera system for safe maneuvering.

It comes integrated with an embedded SIM, Wi-Fi connectivity, pre-loaded apps that offer online radio and music, navigation and weather forecasts. It also features voice recognition software that lets you control different aspects of the car by speaking a voice command.

Proton X70 SUVThe Proton X70 is offered in four variants: entry-level Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Executive AWD and Premium 2WD. All variants will feature a 1.8-litre TGDI turbo-charged four-cylinder petrol engine outputting 181hp and 285Nm of torque.

Colour options include Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Cinnamon Brown, and Flame Red (options depends on vehicle variants). Interior trim options include black fabric, black leatherette, and the top-of-the-line brown nappa leather (Premium 2WD variant only).

Proton X70 ASEAN NCAPLast week, PROTON announced that the Proton X70 scored a 5-star rating from the New Car Assessment Program from Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP), putting it near the top of its segment for occupant safety.

The SUV received a perfect score for side impact and head protection.

The car was also recently classified as an Energy-Efficient Vehicle (EEV) by the JPJ.

Proton X70 SUVThe Proton X70 has certainly stirred the interest of the public. Even without viewing the car as a whole, consumers came out in droves to place a booking since pre-bookings kicked off in September. Pre-launch bookings exceeded 10,000 units, with 2,000 units made online via Proton’s new booking portal.

PROTON has officially announced 12 December as the launch date for the Proton X70. The launch will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Expect a glitzy affair as the company seeks to end 2018 on a high note and start the new year with a bang.
