Possibly featuring the best camera on an OPPO device yet – the OPPO R17 Pro is making its way to Malaysia on Thursday, 22 November 2018. The China smartphone maker has been teasing its latest device since August.
Like the OPPO R15 Pro, the OPPO R17 Pro features a beautiful glass surface with gradient colours and curved edges.
It sports a 6.4-inch FHD+ 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio display (2340×1080) with a tiny waterdrop notch. OPPO has minimised the bezels on the device and it pushes a 91.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. It’s also the world’s first to use Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
You’ll notice the absence of a fingerprint scanner on the back. That’s because the OPPO R17 Pro offers an in-display fingerprint scanner and also facial authentication.
Under the hood, the device packs a Snapdragon 710 coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.
OPPO is really banking on one thing – the camera. And from the looks of it, it’s a pretty strong offering. It’s a got a couple of things going for it. First, it’s a triple camera setup with a variable aperture lens (yes like the Galaxy S9 and Note9), possibly the first smartphone in the world to use such a setup.
The camera system integrates a three-axis optical image stabiliser (OIS) which eliminates shakes at micron-level.
The trio of cameras include a 12MP f/1.5-2.4 main shooter mated to a 20MP f/2.6 sensor and a dedicated 3D depth sensor.
On the front, it features a massive 25MP selfie shooter that apparently offers 8 million beautification options. Who’s counting?
One killer feature OPPO is shouting about is the Ultra Night Mode. Similar to Huawei’s amazing Night Mode on the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro, this could mean some outstanding low-light images. Judging from some I’ve seen, it does look like it’s got potential.
The device comes with a 3,700mAh battery that charges up via USB Type-C, supporting SuperVOOC fast-charging technology. SuperVOOC, as seen on the OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition can charge your device up from 0-40 percent in just 10 minutes.
The OPPO R17 Pro runs ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
