OPPO R15 series is coming to Malaysia on 24 May

OPPO R15

The last we’ve seen of OPPOs higher end smartphones was the OPPO R9s. Choosing to focus more on lucrative but intensely competitive mid-range market instead, selfie-centric models like the OPPO F5 and F7 prove popular with consumers. As a technology showcase, however, the R-series was always the one bringing it to the plate. Well, the wait is almost over – the OPPO R15 and R15 Pro, are slated for a 24 May official release in Malaysia.

First released in China, the OPPO R15 comes in two different guises – the standard edition and the OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition, also known as the R15 Pro.

Let’s have a look at the spec sheet. Both the R15 and R15 Pro offer a 6.28-inch OLED Super View Full-screen (2280×1080) display with a notch. It has a 19:9 screen aspect ratio and a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent.

The R15 Pro boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset backed by 6GB of RAM and inbuilt 128GB of storage. Storage can be expanded further via microSD (up to 256GB).

The lower rung R15 uses a MediaTek Helio P60 with similar memory options.

The premium mid-range device gets its juice from a 3,400mAh battery and being an R-series device, it gets the benefit of VOOC fast charging technology. Something we’ve not seen since the OPPO R9s.

In terms of optics, the R15 Pro features a dual-camera setup, surprising not arranged in a vertical array, but in a more traditional horizontal layout. It comprises a 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor and 20MP secondary sensor. Both boast f/1.7 aperture lenses. On the front is a 20MP selfie shooter.

The standard R15 gets a 16MP f/1.7 + 5MP f/2.2 rear dual-camera setup.

In terms of design, there isn’t anything ground-breaking or different, and you’ll notice splashes of the OPPO F7 on the rear and front. What’s a pleasant addition though, is IP67 dust- and water-resistance and NFC functionality. Unfortunately, no support for wireless charging.

The OPPO R15 and R15 Pro runs Color OS 5.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
