The Moto Z4 was announced a couple of weeks ago and it’s now available for sale exclusively from Verizon in the US. While it doesn’t tout flagship hardware as initially expected, the device is still a solid mid-ranger will some impressive internals including a 48MP main cxamera, support for 5G (via Moto Mods), and more. One interesting thing Motorola isn’t talking about is stylus support on its latest smartphone.
Yes, you read that right. As discovered by users on Reddit, there’s mention of stylus support on the Moto Z4 product page.
It read “Stylus Compatible with Microsoft active pen protocol” as pointed out by Reddit user mrmax86. In the same thread, Reddit user jjsaturday said he tried it with several Surface pens and they worked with the Moto Z4. He added that pressure sensitivity worked and the eraser acts as a back button.
Stylus-equipped smartphones are as rare as hen’s teeth, with the Samsung Galaxy Note series ruling the roost since its introduction. The Moto Z4 could very well be a more affordable alternative, granted it isn’t purpose-built from ground up like the Galaxy Note. Granted, Motorola wouldn’t be the first to venture down this path. I can think of the Infinix Note 4 Pro back in 2017.
Could Motorola be working on a “Note” then? Who knows?
Stylus support aside, the Moto Z4 looks like a solid mid-ranger on paper. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (expandable via microSD), a 6.4-inch OLED display (1080×2340) and boasts a massive 48MP main camera. It also packs a big 25MP selfie camera and offers “two-day battery life” via its 3,600mAh battery that charges via USB-C with support for 15W TurboPower fast charging. It offers an optical under-display fingerprint scanner.
There’s support for Moto Mods where you can slap on accessories like 360-camera, projector, JBL speakers, Hasselblad True Zoom and the latest 5G Moto Mod.
