Microsoft’s “Project Scarlett”—the next generation Xbox Series X (wow, that’s a lot of X’s) is now official. Announced at Game Awards 2019, the new gaming console is set to hit retail channels during the 2020 holiday season.

In June, Microsoft said that the Xbox Series X will be four times more powerful than the Xbox One X and will come with even more memory, high resolution and better graphics.

The last major release was the Xbox One in 2013. Subsequent iterative updates included the Xbox One S (2016) and the Xbox One X (2017).

The gaming console has a new tower, almost PC-like industrial design that Microsoft said supports both vertical and horizontal orientation. It’s designed to run in a quiet and efficient manner, while delivering powerful performance and immersive gameplay.

Under the hood, the gaming console is powered by a custom-designed processor leveraging the latest Zen 2 and next generation RDNA architecture from AMD. It will deliver 4K visuals at 60fps, with a possibility of up to 120fps, including support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and 8K capability.

The Xbox Series X will come with a new Bluetooth-enabled Xbox Wireless Controller that boasts a rechargeable battery that has up to 40 hours of battery life. It has a more refined and compact shape and size and will be compatible with Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

The next generation gaming console is set to launch alongside the first-party title Halo Infinite.

In addition to that, Microsoft also revealed the sequel to the award-winning Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice from world-renowned developers Ninja Theory entitled Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. The game is being built to leverage the full power of the Xbox Series X.

Microsoft said that game creators around the globe and its 15 Xbox Game Studios are already hard at work building content for its new gaming console.
